It sounds like you just need some feedback.

A new co-operative RPG/game group formed a few days ago. It's still percolating but has a dedicated and non-public forum. There are some artists, editors, and proofreaders there that might light a spark or two.

I can't guarantee anything, but there are some experienced and creative people that have signed on. It might not necessarily be that the Queen knows the Atlanteans are on their way--it could be that the Atlanteans and the Queen's advisors have the same sources, or the Atlanteans have been tipped off that the English are on their way.

The nice thing about that is that it gives the PCs good reason to be exceptional, and maybe even (if you're willing to have these sorts of PCs) a bit supernatural. If this is just some random ship, it would really strain credibility if your PCs end up as, say, an expert in ancient languages, a priest with True Faith, a half-fae, and a gypsy hedge wizard. But if this is a mission to Polyphemus's island, that makes perfect sense.

On the other hand, if your PCs lack some obviously crucial skill (like, say, proficiency in Ancient Greek), it gets harder to explain why that might be. Your mileage, as always, may vary.Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16713733132860556348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-208045521016729336.post-88134828517791726262011-07-19T01:04:46.388-07:002011-07-19T01:04:46.388-07:00Congratulations! The area has a reputation for being safe, idyllic and friendly, however, so you really do need to put some mystery in those woods lest they sound TOO safe and friendly. What about something like the Aryan nation folks who like to hide out in the forests of the Inland Northwest? Or you could make the woods more like the rainforests of the Olympic Peninsula, which are claustrophobic and kind of creepy, with the way the vegetation crawls all over everything and you can't see the sky.Louisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03479811263569950569noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-208045521016729336.post-47308932899046118452011-01-30T22:47:25.815-08:002011-01-30T22:47:25.815-08:00"one PC had to conduct a research conflict wh..."one PC had to conduct a research conflict while the others defended the library from incursion."--now that's my kind of conflict!Louisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03479811263569950569noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-208045521016729336.post-8279917238237561332011-01-30T22:42:27.016-08:002011-01-30T22:42:27.016-08:00I like the "Other Names" here--lots of i...I like the "Other Names" here--lots of interesting obstacles to create conflict.Louisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03479811263569950569noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-208045521016729336.post-70842164867735624282011-01-21T01:20:53.598-08:002011-01-21T01:20:53.598-08:00I don't know if he could still sue you, but Th...I don't know if he could still sue you, but The Libation Bearers (Same author, naturally) could make for some pretty nice things to be used in a campaign.
